Aug 21, 2014:
TÜV badge after 106 years
Dürkopp veteran car is allowed to drive on public roads again
For decades the „Phaeton“ veteran car from 1908 had only been standing in a workshop or
in a show room. In those days the motorcar belonged to the masterpieces of engineering. Wolfram
Schulze, a former staff member of Dürkopp Adler, has dedicated himself to the “old treasure” with
great passion and succeeded in making the „sun car“ roadworthy again by restoring its technically
proper condition Now it looks exactly like in the good old days when it was presented to the
world of mobility. Thanks to the commitment of Mr. Schulze the Dürkopp veteran car drives with a
respectable output of 24 hp and a top speed of 75 km/h. The only problem is that the vehicle does
not have an indicator light, and which had never been planned. So this is replaced by a signalling
disc.
On August 18th, 2014, it finally became official: At the age of 106 the Dürkopp Phaeton got
the permission to drive along the streets again after having been successfully tested by the TÜV
Nord. The brake of the veteran car works evenly and smoothly. Also all other vital parts of the
vehicle are in a sound condition as in its early days. When looking at this polished and
restored classic car the pulse of the TÜV inspector began to accelerate because such an old car is
unlikely to be seen on his lifting platform ever again. Also the road traffic authority was
convinced by the positive TÜV certificate so that - as a result - a piece of history can roll along
the streets of Bielefeld again.
